The archivist is responsible for collecting, classifying, preserving, and restoring archives and communicating them to the public and researchers. These archives come from administrations, companies, associations, or sometimes even individuals.<\/div>\n

The archivist\u00a0<\/strong>handles all documents, whether old or contemporary: from medieval manuscripts (charters and other ancient documents) to the electronic recording of a television broadcast, including the notarial deed certifying the purchase of a property.<\/p>\n

In all cases, these are original documents (written documents, photos, records, films...), intended for one reason or another to be preserved.<\/p>\n

The media used today (digital directories, computerized databases...) allow for significant savings in both time and space. The archivist must therefore master specialized software and internet tools.<\/p>\n

If thearchivist<\/strong>\u00a0primarily aims to classify and preserve documents, another very important aspect of the profession focuses on communication. Whether working in a museum, a municipality, or a company, one must ensure that archives are transmitted to an increasingly demanding public.<\/p>\n

The profession is mainly practiced in the public sector, particularly territorial (regional, departmental, municipal archives...).<\/p>\n

Moreover, increasingly, large companies, keen on preserving their 'memory', have established an archive service. An activity that places the archivist at the heart of information management.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
