He must integrate technology, organization, cybersecurity, and human usage. Without him, a company can pay for expensive licenses and continue to work via emails and WhatsApp groups.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"metier-brief\">\n<p class=\"metier-brief__label\">The profession in 30 seconds<\/p>\n<p>He designs and maintains the digital work environment of an organization.<\/p>\n<p>Job offers mainly refer to Digital Workplace, Modern Workplace, or Microsoft 365, rarely to 'remote work expert'.<\/p>\n<p>The profession combines technology, user training, and change management.<\/p>\n<p>There is no single diploma: one can enter through IT, IS, project management, or digital transformation.<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<h2>What is the purpose of this professional?<\/h2>\n<p>The Digital Workplace consultant (digital work environment) helps an organization work remotely, in hybrid mode, or across multiple sites without losing control. He chooses or configures the tools, organizes access, trains teams, and measures whether people are actually using what has been deployed.<\/p>\n<p>He is neither a simple helpdesk nor solely a trainer. He translates a business need (meeting, shared folder, project, confidentiality) into a usable system. If the solution is too complex, too expensive, or too risky, it is also his responsibility to say so.<\/p>\n<h2>A typical day<\/h2>\n<p class=\"metier-day__note\">Example of a typical day. Professionals often come from IT and information systems, digital transformation, project management, cybersecurity, or management and change management.<\/p>\n<p>According to the job description, a Bac+3 level may be sufficient for an administration and support role. A Bac+5 is common as soon as the position involves Microsoft 365 architecture, security, and consulting. Certifications (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, project management) are helpful, but they do not replace the ability to train non-specialists. A degree does not guarantee employment: experience in a real deployment often weighs just as much.<\/p>\n<h2>Where does he work?<\/h2>\n<p>The position exists as soon as an organization has dispersed teams and a suite of collaborative tools to manage.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Consulting firms and digital services companies (ESN), to support multiple clients.<\/li>\n<li>Large companies, banks, and telecoms, to manage the internal environment.<\/li>\n<li>Government agencies and international organizations, to modernize work without compromising security.<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft or Google partners, integrators, and publishers.<\/li>\n<li>As a freelancer, especially with SMEs that do not have an internal IT department.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"metier-titles__label\">Job titles to look for in job postings<\/p>\n<ul class=\"metier-titles\">\n<li>Digital Workplace Consultant<\/li>\n<li>Digital Workplace Manager<\/li>\n<li>Modern Workplace Consultant<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft 365 Consultant<\/li>\n<li>Collaboration Tools Specialist<\/li>\n<li>Change Management Consultant<\/li>\n<li>Collaborative Tools Manager<\/li>\n<li>Digital Workplace Project Manager<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is the salary?<\/h2>\n<p>There is no single salary. The amount depends on the country, experience, the highly technical nature of the position, and the employer. A profile primarily focused on training and change is not paid the same as a Microsoft 365, Intune, and identity specialist.<\/p>\n<p>In France, job postings in 2026 for Digital Workplace or Microsoft 365 consultants show very variable gross annual salary ranges, often between \u20ac45,000 and \u20ac65,000 for intermediate profiles, and more for highly technical senior profiles. These amounts do not translate to Gabon or Francophone Africa. In the absence of a comparable public scale, La Revue UNIVGA does not publish invented local figures: one must read the job offers in the targeted market, city by city.<\/p>\n<h2>The realities to know<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Resistance to change is the real job: an excellent tool can fail if no one uses it.<\/li>\n<li>Remote work increases the risks of data leaks and misconfigured access.<\/li>\n<li>Software suites often change. Continuous training is necessary.<\/li>\n<li>When Teams, messaging, or file sharing goes down, you are called immediately.<\/li>\n<li>The position is cross-functional: you need to convince IT, HR, managers, and users, without hierarchical authority.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>And in Africa?<\/h2>\n<p>The need is real as soon as teams are spread between Libreville, Port-Gentil, Abidjan, Dakar, Douala, and sometimes Paris. The profession is not limited to copying a Western model. It is necessary to consider the quality of the connection, the cost of SaaS licenses (subscription-based online software), the equipment of agents, and the fact that many exchanges already take place via WhatsApp or phone.<\/p>\n<p>Banks, telecoms, government agencies, universities, NGOs, and mining or oil companies have concrete challenges: shared files, hybrid meetings, distance learning, document validation without circulating it via USB. Cybersecurity and personal data protection are part of the brief, not an afterthought following an incident.<\/p>\n<p>For UNIVGA, this profession illustrates a future skill: the ability to connect tools, organization, and people, in contexts where the network is not always stable and where the budget is not that of a European headquarters.<\/p>\n<h2>Is this job for you?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you enjoy explaining a tool as much as configuring it?<\/li>\n<li>Do you care that teams truly understand what they are using?<\/li>\n<li>Are you more interested in hybrid work and new methods than pure coding?<\/li>\n<li>Are you willing to be called upon when \"it\u2019s not working anymore\"?<\/li>\n<li>Can you work alongside the IT department, HR, and non-technical users?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you answered yes to most of these questions, this family of professions may suit you.
