About Course
With the arrival of American and British investors at our oil sites, mastering the English language tailored to the oil sector has become a necessity to obtain and maintain a job in the sector.
Many of our young professionals have been denied or lost a job in the field due to a lack of language skills to better communicate with their hierarchy.
This course aims to equip professionals in the oil sector with the optimal vocabulary necessary for managing a site and also to understand the technical documents under their management.
This course is suitable for a student with a minimum English level of terminal class.
The topics that will be covered are as follows:
- Reminder of basic vocabulary and some common expressions to master before the course
- The hierarchy of the company in English (Departments and their role in the company)
- How to introduce oneself in British and American English (Origin, profession, expertise, department)
- How to hold a meeting in English: Morning huddle, Reviews, Inspections, End-of-the-day debrief
- How to manage conversation during a first meeting (with hierarchy, colleagues, a team)
- Technical terms to know in offshore/onshore in the oil field
- Work tools in the oil field
- Means of communication in the oil field: Current state (Initial report), and final report, reporting an incident, technical report
- Health, safety, and regulations in force: Safety, health, rules and regulation on pollution vocabulary
- Continuous education in the oil industry
- Professions in the oil field
- How to make a presentation and conduct an interview in the oil field including writing a CV in American English
Note: At the end of the course, each student will have to make a presentation on a topic in the oil field and succeed in an oral interview that will include ten essential questions (A proforma will be provided by the professor)
