Description

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Industrial & Petroleum Safety at UNIVGA is a comprehensive 3-year university program (180 ECTS) that trains HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) higher technicians capable of intervening in high-risk industrial environments: refineries, oil terminals, onshore and offshore platforms, mining sites, cement plants, chemical sites.

Designed to meet the specific needs of the African extractive industries (Gabon, Congo, Chad, Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Mauritania, Mozambique) and the safety requirements of major oil and mining companies, this training is delivered 100% online. It combines the rigor of a university education in industrial sciences with the operational aspects of an HSE position on oil & gas or mining sites.

Market issues and career opportunity

The African oil, gas, and mining industry is continuously growing. Major companies (TotalEnergies, Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, Eni, Perenco, Maurel & Prom) and national companies (SNH, SNPC, SOMAGEC) impose extremely high HSE standards and recruit trained HSE technicians. Contractors (Schlumberger, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, TechnipFMC) are also actively hiring.

Curriculum pedagogical structure

Year 1 — Scientific and Industrial Fundamentals. Applied mathematics, general physics (mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity), general chemistry and hydrocarbon chemistry, industrial drawing and reading plans, introduction to management, written and oral communication, technical English, professional office automation.

Year 2 — Petroleum processes and industrial safety. Oil & gas processes (upstream, midstream, downstream), process safety (HAZOP, LOPA, SIL), explosive atmospheres (ATEX) and hazardous areas, fire and explosion prevention, oil environment (discharges, oil spills, restoration), African labor law and the hydrocarbons labor code.

Year 3 — HSE oil & gas specialization. Oil spill crisis management (PUI, industrial ORSEC plan), HSE audit upstream and downstream, confined space intervention and working at heights, oil & gas professional certifications (OPITO BOSIET, IWCF Well Control, NEBOSH IGC), AI and predictive maintenance on industrial sites (IoT sensors, vibration, thermography). The program concludes with a supervised professional thesis, presented orally via videoconference before an academic jury.

Career opportunities

HSE technician in a refinery, oil terminal, onshore/offshore platform, HSE technician in a mining site, industrial prevention officer, HSE inspector in oil subcontracting, safety facilitator, fire prevention officer. Continuation to a Master's in HSE Oil & Gas, Master's in QHSE, or Master's in Process Engineering.

Suitable for working professionals

UNIVGA is designed to meet the needs of active professionals (80% of our audience). Platform accessible 24/7, flexible schedules, recorded virtual classes, personalized support. Ideal for oil production technicians, refinery operators, safety facilitators, site nurses, and industry team leaders wishing to advance to HSE functions.
