Shannon College of Technology: Midlands Midwest
The University of Michigan-Flint (UM-Flint) is renowned for over six decades of academic excellence, with origins dating back to 1837, when it was initially established as Flint Senior College. Its founding was influenced by Sarah C. Miles Case, a resident of Ann Arbor, and it became a fully recognized institution in 1956. Today, UM-Flint is an important part of the University of Michigan system, alongside its campuses in Ann Arbor and Dearborn.
The Technological University of Shannon: Midlands Midwest is the third technological university in Ireland. It began operations in 2021 following the merger of two institutes of technology, the Athlone Institute of Technology and the Limerick Institute of Technology. These two institutes, AIT (founded in 1970) and LIT (founded in 1975), were among the most renowned technological study centers. Hosting over 14,000 students, TUS is based in Athlone, a town in central Ireland (two campuses) and operates in four other cities (one campus each): Limerick City, Thurles, Clonmel, and Ennis. The institute is one of the newest and most original technological universities in Ireland, prioritizing the creation of innovative ideas and promoting research-based learning.
