The University of Michigan-Flint (UM-Flint) is renowned for over six decades of academic excellence, with origins dating back to 1837, when it was initially established as Flint Senior College. Its founding was influenced by Sarah C. Miles Case, a resident of Ann Arbor, and it became a fully recognized institution in 1956. Today, UM-Flint is an important part of the University of Michigan system, alongside its campuses in Ann Arbor and Dearborn.

James Cook University (JCU), established in 1970, is the second oldest university in Queensland. Notably, JCU is consistently ranked among the best universities in the world.
