About Course
Aquaculture is the controlled breeding of fish and other aquatic organisms (fish, crustaceans, mollusks) in freshwater or marine environments. It aims to produce, in closed or semi-open systems, juveniles and market fish intended for consumption, restocking, or sale in pet stores. The sector encompasses the management of the aquatic environment, nutrition, reproduction, and species health.
Aquaculture specialists can work in commercial aquaculture farms, research and experimental stations, public fisheries management organizations, fish feed production companies, or as independent consultants. They also work in conservation NGOs, aquaculture laboratories, or startups developing technological solutions (monitoring, automation, sustainable feeding).
Global demand for aquatic products continues to grow, driven by overfishing of natural stocks and the rise of intensive farming techniques. Job prospects are particularly favorable for aquaculturists who master eco-efficient systems (recirculation, aquaponics), can ensure sanitary quality and animal welfare, and are sensitive to sustainability and traceability issues. Opportunities also extend to production management positions, applied research, and export sales functions.
