About Course
The Certified Counter-Insurgency Specialist training at UNIVGA aims to prepare individuals to understand, prevent, and respond to insurgent movements that can destabilize regions and have repercussions on national and international security. Participants will delve into the study of the origins of insurgencies, the motivations of insurgents, and the strategies adopted by them. They will also learn counter-insurgency (COIN) tactics, which integrate a combination of military actions, intelligence, diplomacy, governance, and development to confront and neutralize insurgents.
The skills acquired in this training go well beyond military responses. Effective counter-insurgency requires a deep understanding of the sociopolitical, economic, and cultural dynamics of a region. Consequently, a significant portion of the training focuses on studying local populations, cultural awareness, and methods to gain their trust and support. Strategies to isolate insurgents from their support base, while strengthening the legitimacy and capacity of governmental institutions, are also at the heart of this program.
Opportunities for a Certified Counter-Insurgency Specialist are varied. They can work directly in the field with armed forces, security organizations, or intelligence agencies. Furthermore, international organizations, NGOs, and think tanks also recruit specialists to develop pacification strategies, advise on security policies, or conduct in-depth studies and analyses of areas affected by insurgency. Additionally, their expertise is also valued in the field of diplomacy, where negotiation and mediation are essential for achieving sustainable solutions.
