Distance professional Bachelor's degree UNIVGA: who the curriculum is for

Three years, Bac+3 and 180 ECTS: the UNIVGA format may suit high school graduates and employees, but not candidates seeking a short certification. After the high school diploma, the choice seems simple on paper: enter a long cycle or accumulate short training. For an employee already in position, the question is less theoretical: managing three years of online studies, producing assignments, preparing a thesis, and then defending in front of a jury.

On the page of UNIVGA Professional Bachelor's degrees, the pathway is presented as an online curriculum leading to the Bachelor's degree, Bac+3 level, with 180 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits. The issue is therefore not to choose a simple practical option, but to verify if a structured diploma is better suited than a short certificate.

Management Certificate or degree: which contract to choose at UNIVGA

Option considered What this aims for Not to be confused with
UNIVGA professional degree LMD degree program over 3 years, Bac+3 level, 180 ECTS, with professional specialization. A short training course with no academic requirements.
Professional Certificate Certificate of skills in a given area, according to the UNIVGA FAQ. A university LMD degree.
Certification from an organization Preparation or reference to an external standard, such as EC-Council, Certiport, Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), or International Organization for Standardization (ISO) via Professional Evaluation and Certification Board (PECB). The Bachelor's degree or a national diploma.

A three-year program, not a short training course.

UNIVGA's central promise is not an isolated module, but an academic progression: fundamentals in the first year, technical deepening in the second year, professional specialization in the third year. The program concludes with a professional thesis and an oral defense via videoconference before an academic jury.

The general catalog classifies the professional Bachelor's degree alongside the Higher School, in the section for national and international diplomas. It also specifies that UNIVGA offers professional certificates. This dual offering requires vigilance: the word training alone does not indicate whether we are talking about an LMD degree, a skills certificate, or an external certification.

High school graduates and employees: two different uses of the same format.

For a high school graduate.

The program is suitable if the goal is to enter directly into a complete cycle up to Bac+3 level. The professional Bachelor's page indicates entry from the baccalaureate, and program pages require a copy of the baccalaureate certificate or diploma. The choice is coherent for a candidate who wants to avoid stacking short courses and follow a clear academic progression.

For an employee.

The format works if the professional activity allows enough time for classes, assignments, virtual classes, and evaluations. UNIVGA presents its training as 100% online, with access to a platform, interactions with teachers, resources, assignments, and exams. Flexibility does not eliminate the requirement: it shifts the effort towards personal organization.

When the UNIVGA professional Bachelor's degree is not the right choice.

The program is less suitable for someone looking for very short training, with no prerequisites, intended only to validate an operational skill. In this case, a professional certificate may be more logical, provided it is not presented as a university degree.

The format is also not the most direct for someone aiming solely for an external exam, for example in cybersecurity, office automation, cloud, or ISO standards. An external certification may have professional value in a given sector, but it does not replace a Bachelor's program.

Finally, for a candidate without a baccalaureate, direct admission to a standard professional Bachelor's degree does not appear to be a standard pathway on the general page consulted. Validation of acquired experience (VAE) exists at UNIVGA as a separate mechanism, but it should not be confused with ordinary catalog enrollment.

National diploma: the methodological point to keep in mind.

The UNIVGA catalog presents the professional Bachelor's degree in the space of national and international diplomas and indicates that higher-level diplomas are awarded in collaboration with local or international partner universities. This is an important element for a candidate in Francophone Africa, where diploma recognition, the issuing institution, and the credit system can weigh in on a return to studies.

The useful external reference comes from the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education (CAMES): in the LMD system, the Bachelor's degree corresponds to 180 transferable and capitalizable credits. This helps to situate the level announced by UNIVGA, without automatically deducing an equivalence in all countries or administrations.

What to check before deciding

  • The partner university that actually awards the chosen professional Bachelor's degree, as it is not identified on the general page of consulted Bachelor's degrees.
  • The specific admission conditions of the targeted program, notably the baccalaureate or the required academic documents.
  • The actual workload: virtual classes, assignments, exams, professional thesis, and defense.
  • The difference between LMD degree, UNIVGA professional certificate, and external organization certification.
  • The relevance of the chosen specialty: cybersecurity, human resources, project management, business law, digital marketing, or environment do not meet the same objectives.
  • The recognition rules in the country, company, or administration where the diploma will be used.
