What is a certificate used for, concretely
It is useful when the problem is clear. You take a team and you have never held a briefing. You need to sell, arbitrate, frame a project, and you don’t have two years ahead of you. The certificate frames an action. It does not redo your entire educational journey.
In Francophone Africa, this need often arises during employment, not after high school. The short distance format is designed for that: you stay at work. You leave with a dated skill, not with a university degree.
The certificate
Short, targeted, open without prior diploma. Ideal for a seasonal need: managing, selling, leading. It is not a disguised Master's.
The diploma (Bachelor's, MBA...)
LMD cycle, file, calendar, assignments, often a defense. Longer. It is a journey, not a workshop. Review the sheet before confusing the two.
What the 100% online changes here
In a certificate, you mainly progress alone: lessons, exercises, automated corrections, administrative support. This is not a flaw if you knew what you were signing up for. It becomes one if you expected a professor every week, like in an MBA.
The outcomes are not a new magical job. It is about doing your current job better, or daring to take on a first supervisory role. If you aim for a degree, turn to Bachelor's, Master's, and MBA, not to the certificate.
