On a CV, three letters can raise a real question in an interview: validation of acquired experience (VAE). The recruiter wants to know if the diploma corresponds to proven skills, official recognition, and verifiable achievements.
The wrong answer consists of overselling the VAE as a shortcut. The right one is to explain the jury, the reference framework, the evidence produced, and the limitations of the system. Source verification as of September 25, 2026: no solid public data has been found on salaries or employment after VAE in Gabon.

What the VAE proves, and what it does not replace
The VAE is not just an administrative line. In the consulted texts, it relies on the examination of a file, comparison with a reference framework, and, depending on the case, an interview or evaluation by a jury. It is this logic that must be made clear to the employer.
What you can defend
- You have engaged in activities related to the targeted certification.
- You have linked your missions to expected skills.
- You have produced evidence: responsibilities, deliverables, certificates, projects, procedures.
- Your achievements have been evaluated by a jury or a competent authority, according to the applicable framework.
What to avoid implying
- That you have necessarily completed all the courses of a traditional curriculum.
- That you already master all the software, standards, or internal procedures of the company.
- That the VAE guarantees a job, a promotion, or a salary increase.
- That the diploma is automatically recognized by CAMES without documentary verification.
The CV line: sober, accurate, verifiable
The CV should help the recruiter understand the certification, not guess the background. The exact title, the authority that issues it, and the year matter more than an impressive but vague phrase.
Formulations to avoid
- “Diploma equivalent to master” if the equivalence is not officially established.
- “Recognized by CAMES” without a link to a list, decision, or verifiable reference.
- “Bac+5” if the official level of the certification is not documented.
- “VAE guaranteed” or “diploma obtained quickly,” which sound more like a commercial argument than proof.
More readable formulations
| Situation | Cautious CV line |
|---|---|
| Degree obtained through VAE in France | [Exact degree], obtained through VAE, [certifying body / university / ministry], [year] |
| Degree obtained through VAE in Gabon | [Exact degree], [authority / institution], [year] |
| Verified CAMES recognition | [Exact degree], [institution], [year]; verified CAMES recognition or accreditation: [reference] |
| School certificate | [Exact certificate or attestation], [school], [year]; do not present as a national diploma if this is not the case |
For Gabon, caution is important: the consulted decree indicates that the degree, certificate, or title issued by VAE must not mention VAE. Therefore, the CV line can remain focused on the degree. If the VAE process highlights your background, keep the explanation for the interview.
In the interview: turn VAE into professional proof
The phrase to keep in mind: VAE did not exempt me from proving my skills; it required me to document them. This stance better addresses doubts than a defensive discourse.
Response framework
- Context: "I was already performing tasks corresponding to the degree's reference framework."
- Approach: "I compiled a file with my activities, responsibilities, and evidence."
- Evaluation: "These achievements were examined by a jury, according to the applicable framework."
- Contribution: "This approach demonstrates my ability to formalize my practices and connect my experience to the expected skills."
- Limit: "For this position, I would like to verify with you the specific tools and procedures to master."
Short response to a skeptical recruiter
"VAE does not mean that the degree was given automatically. It means that my professional achievements were evaluated against a reference framework. What I can bring you is both field experience and the ability to analyze it."
France, Gabon, UEMOA, CAMES: do not mix frameworks
In France, the France VAE portal presents VAE as a pathway to certification. In French higher education, the ministry distinguishes VAE, which can allow obtaining all or part of a degree, from the validation of professional achievements known as VAP 85, which mainly allows access to university training without the normally required degree.
In Gabon, decree n°0529/PR/MFPIJ of October 13, 2015, sets the conditions for considering VAE and specifically mentions certifications such as CFP, CAP, BEP, professional Bac, DTS, BTS, and CQP. The criteria may vary depending on the authority, certification, and relevant sector.
In the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), the consulted directive concerns the License-Master-Doctorate (LMD) architecture, credits, mobility, and quality assurance. It should not be presented as a regional VAE system automatically applicable to all member states.
CAMES is involved particularly through the Diploma Recognition and Equivalence Program (PRED) and publishes information on accredited training. A training offer, a degree, and an institution should not be confused: check the exact title and the official reference.
Four misconceptions to correct
"A VAE is a purchased degree"
False. The consulted executives foresee an evaluation of achievements, notably by a jury. Support can help prepare the file, but it should not promise automatic obtaining.
" A VAE guarantees a job "
False. No reliable public data has been found on an employment rate or salary effect in Gabon. The recruiter will always assess the fit for the position.
" CAMES means VAE recognized everywhere "
False. The VAE is a method of obtaining a certification. CAMES deals with recognition, equivalence, or accreditation of diplomas and training according to its procedures.
" The VAE replaces recent experience "
False. It formalizes acquired knowledge. It does not replace the updating of skills, references, mandatory qualifications, or internal requirements of a company.
What to check before deciding
- The exact title of the diploma, title, certificate, or attestation.
- The certifying authority: ministry, university, certifying body, or institution.
- The applicable national framework in the relevant country, especially if you are applying in another state.
- The difference between national diploma, institutional diploma, professional certificate, and participation attestation.
- The proof of recognition or CAMES accreditation if you indicate it on your CV.
- The specific conditions for regulated sectors: professional order, qualification, competition, approval, or authorization to practice.
- Concrete evidence to present to the recruiter: job descriptions, deliverables, attestations, portfolio, responsibilities, projects, documented results without fabricated numbers.
- The consistency between the VAE and the targeted position: recent skills, tools used, level of responsibility, and professional environment.
