MOL solar and battery branch, the cost remains to be proven

In Hungary, MOL inaugurates a solar park with battery. For African sites, the real question becomes the economic management of energy. On September 17, 2026, MOL Group inaugurated a solar park in Algyő, Hungary, with a capacity of 37.4 MWp (megawatts peak) combined with a battery of 20 MW / 40 MWh (megawatts and megawatt-hours). The principle is clear: produce solar electricity on-site, store part of it, and then reinject it when production decreases or when the grid needs it.

The professional challenge goes beyond the green transition. It touches on energy costs, business continuity, maintenance, and internal responsibilities. In Libreville, for the maintenance manager of a food processing plant, the question becomes concrete: should we only buy panels, or learn to manage electricity as a production asset?

What is it, concretely?

Solar energy is produced mainly when the sun is available. A factory, a hospital, or a cold storage warehouse consumes according to its machines, schedules, and urgencies. A battery then plays the role of an electrical savings account: it keeps part of the energy produced at a given moment for later use, or to support the grid when demand increases.

What changes compared to a classic solar project is the management logic. The company does not simply replace an electricity bill with panels on a plot of land. It combines production, storage, supervision, maintenance, and financial choices. Available sources indicate an announced commissioning, not a laboratory test. The capacity and emission reduction figures come from MOL's communication, reported by specialized media. IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) reminds us that storage helps to integrate more solar and wind energy, as these productions vary throughout the day.

Concrete case: what to do and what not to do

Questions to Ask Before Acting

  • When an organization produces and stores its own electricity, who becomes responsible for balancing cost, business continuity, grid security, and climate promises?
  • Do we have a reliable hourly profile of our electricity consumption?
  • Which activities must absolutely continue in case of an outage?
  • Does the supplier clearly distinguish power, capacity, autonomy, and efficiency?
  • Does the contract cover maintenance, parts, supervision, security, and end-of-life for the battery?
  • Are the reported gains measured independently or only estimated by the seller?
  • Have we compared solar alone, solar with battery, generator, energy efficiency, and grid contract?
