Job description
The role of thedatabase administrator (DBA) is to organize and reliably manage the company's data management systems. They must ensure consistency, quality, and security. With continuous technological monitoring, they may have to manage multiple databases and several tools.
Organized information clusters that are easily consultable, manageable, and updatable, databases are used in many companies to store, organize, and analyze data.
The database administrator participates in the selection of software packages and the implementation of the databases for their company. They are then responsible for installing, configuring, administering, and optimizing the database(s). Beyond the technical aspect, they take into account the entire environment of the company as well as the needs and requests of users. While some administrators specialize, others only intervene in the administration and maintenance aspects of the data.
The database administrator is at the crossroads of different services with which they work. They may participate in training users within the company. They may be required to travel within or outside the company or intervene on the database outside of working hours.
The database administrator is employed within a company or by a service provider.
Essential qualities: rigor and methodical approach, mastery of market management systems (Oracle, Microsoft SQL, Sybase...) as well as open-mindedness, listening skills, communication skills, and adaptability.
Studies / Training to become Database Administrator
3 to 5 years of higher education and 3 years of experience in software development are desirable. Examples of training include:

Salaries
Salary depends on experience and employer.
- junior: between 35 and 45 K€ (gross monthly)
- senior: between 45 and 75 K€ (gross monthly)
Career evolutions
With several years of experience, the database administrator, often attached to the IT Department (Direction des Systèmes d’Information), can advance to a project manager or IT manager position overseeing an entire team of IT professionals.
